Later this year, Pakistan Women have an important white-ball series scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka which will comprise of both One-Day Internationals and T20 Internationals. The tour, to be played immediately following the completion of the Women’s T20 World Cup in the UK, will give both sides a chance to keep propelling their momentum at international level.
There will be three ODIs and three T20Is in the series, with all six games to take place at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota. Tour Schedule July 23: 1st ODI, July 25: 2nd ODI, & July 28: 3rd ODI The two sides will then turn their attention to the shortest format with T20Is on July 31, August 2 and August 4.
The ODI games hold extra importance as they are part of the ICC Women’s Championship cycle for 2025-29. Each point gained in the competition is crucial to potential qualification routes and standings among some of the best teams in women’s football.
Pakistan now sit second in the championship table following a blistering start to their cycle. They have won eight points from six matches, putting them near the top of the early leader board. Sri Lanka follow close behind in third place after four wins and two losses.
Both sides have begun the championship with a relative bang so this series may go a long way to determine who qualifies. Whichever side prevails would get a boost in their qualification ambitions.
Considering that the sides share a wonderfully competitive history in T20I cricket, what also makes this series exciting is its prospect of being so. Pakistan narrowly lead head-to-head record with 11 wins in the previous T20 internationals between the two teams (overall: 21). Sri Lanka have won nine and one was abandoned.
Cricket fans are in for an exciting contest with six matches across two formats between the sides who boast a pretty evenly matched rivalry. The series is expected to offer vital title points, crucial practice and yet another chapter in a developing rivalry that has animated the women’s international cricket scene.
