Gujarat Titans exacted revenge on Chennai Super Kings in ahead of their IPL Final clash and continued their dominant run so far this season with a huge 89-run triumph here on Sunday. The win consolidated GT’s position in the table and also helped GT players rise to the top of Orange Cap standings and Purple Cap rankings.
The biggest takeaway from the match was GT openers B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill batting performance. Gill smashed a quickfire 64 runs off 37 balls and briefly had the most runs in the season. But it was Sai Sudharsan who soon surpassed his captain, striking 84 of 53 balls. Sai Sudharsan topped the Orange Cap chart with 638 runs after this innings while Gill was on 616.
As a result, the race for the Orange Cap is not over as some star batters are still within reach. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi – Rajasthan Royals (579 runs) sits third with Mitchell Marsh and Heinrich Klaasen.
With ball, in a spell which helped seal the win for Delhi, Kagiso Rabada returned with 3 for 32 to equal Bhuvneshwar Kumar on 24 wickets planted at the top of Purple Cap standings. Despite the tie, Bhuvneshwar held on to the Purple Cap as he had better overall economy.
GT spinner Rashid Khan picked three scalps, while Mohammed Siraj rushed up the wicket-takers’ chart after a stellar performance against CSK.
As the playoffs loom ever closer, both the Orange Cap and Purple Cap races are heating up with every match.
