Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Delhi Capitals Timeline 2013 to 2026
The rivalry between RCB vs DC had a whole different connotation post 2013. In 2013, RCB thrashed Delhi under the bat of legends like Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle. That season proved to be a struggle for Delhi, who ended up near the bottom of the points table.
Though both teams endured uneven campaigns in 2014 and 2015, The protégéLokesh Rahul was too new in the game and RCB relied heavily on Kohli, Gayle, and AB de Villiers to guide the side through.[16] Meanwhile Delhi’s rebuilding of the squad continued. Bengaluru had largely enjoyed the upper hand in these clashes during this period.
The 2016 IPL season was soon becoming one of the most successful years for RCB. Now Virat Kohli scored the most runs and Bengaluru reached the final. Delhi were one woefully out of sorts team, though they showed glimpses of brilliance that saw them not make the playoffs. RCB won both the league matches that season, against Delhi rather convincingly.
Delhi began to look toward young Indian talent from 2017/18. There was the emergence of future players like Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer. RCB on the other hand had batting firepower but lacked anything close to bowling consistency.
Delhi Capitals evolved into a powerful playoff-contending team, and so the rivalry reached a crescendo in 2019 and 2020. Led by Shreyas Iyer, DC made it to the final in IPL 2020 while RCB returned back to the playoffs after many years of inconsistent performances. The games played between the two sides became increasingly competitive.
Delhi Capitals were the table-toppers in 2021, while RCB had also finished in the top four. Now there were some close matches during this period underlining the growing equanimity between the sides. And certain key players like Glenn Maxwell and Anrich Nortje contributed.
The 2022 and 2023 seasons were a bit of hit and miss. RCB qualified for playoffs in 2022, due to their competitive nature; whilst DC struggled consistently. Meanwhile, Delhi kept on churning out promising young guns and effecting changes in their team composition.
Both franchises again made a playoff push in 2024 and 2025. It was Bengaluru’s experienced engine, together with some young Indian contributors, that kept them in business, and Delhi’s aggressive batting and a depth of pace bowling.
The rivalry is still one of the most entertaining battles in league history all the way through to IPL 2026. View full answer The high-scoring rare talents and heated battles between the star players are enjoyed by fans whenever RCB and DC clash.
